Accor expands Saudi Arabia footprint with Mercure launch in Khamis Mushait

Accor has strengthened its midscale portfolio in Saudi Arabia with the opening of Mercure Khamis Mushait, marking the brand’s entry into the Aseer region and expanding its presence in emerging destinations across the Kingdom.

The property is developed and fully managed in partnership with Amsa Hospitality and represents the first hotel under a wider development agreement between the two companies. The collaboration aims to accelerate the rollout of internationally branded hotels across secondary cities in Saudi Arabia.

Focus on Emerging Regional Markets

Located close to Abha International Airport, the 93-room hotel is positioned to serve both business and leisure travellers. The opening reflects Accor’s strategy to expand beyond major urban hubs and tap into rising demand in regional markets.

This expansion aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, which emphasises tourism development and economic diversification across the country.

Modern Amenities with Local Identity

Mercure Khamis Mushait offers a mix of business and leisure facilities, including:

  • All-day dining restaurant and café
  • Meeting and event spaces
  • Fitness centre and indoor swimming pool
  • 24-hour room service and guest support facilities

The hotel incorporates locally inspired design elements, in line with Mercure’s brand philosophy of delivering culturally connected experiences tailored to each destination.

Partnership-Led Growth Strategy

Paul Stevens noted that demand for midscale and economy hotels is increasing in Saudi Arabia’s secondary cities, making such developments critical to the group’s regional expansion plans.

Aamir Riaz highlighted the opening as a milestone collaboration, with a shared focus on delivering consistent quality and guest satisfaction.

The agreement between Accor and Amsa Hospitality is expected to support future openings in key destinations such as Ha’il, Jubail, and Al-Ula.

Strengthening Mercure’s Global Network

The launch comes as Mercure Hotels continues to expand globally, having crossed the milestone of more than 1,000 hotels worldwide. The brand’s positioning in the midscale segment combines international standards with local authenticity.

Hameed Ali stated that the hotel aims to deliver a balance of regional character and modern comfort, catering to diverse traveller needs in the Aseer region.

Boosting Tourism Infrastructure in Saudi Arabia

The opening of Mercure Khamis Mushait highlights a growing trend of branded hotel developments in non-metro cities. It supports both Accor and Amsa Hospitality’s objective to enhance tourism infrastructure and meet increasing demand for quality accommodation in line with the Kingdom’s long-term tourism vision.
