Dibba–Lima–Khasab Road Project Progresses with Key Construction Milestones and Safety Closures in Musandam
The 70-km Dibba–Lima–Khasab Road project in Musandam Governorate is progressing with over 40% of service roads completed. Featuring 11 bridges and 300+ culverts, the 45-month infrastructure project will enhance regional connectivity and tourism access. Controlled rock blasting began on August 31, 2025, with temporary weekday road closures implemented to ensure public safety during construction.
70-km Highway to Transform Connectivity in Musandam Governorate
The Dibba–Lima–Khasab Road project in Musandam Governorate continues to advance as one of Oman’s most significant regional infrastructure initiatives. Spanning approximately 70 kilometres, the highway will directly link the wilayats of Dibba, Lima and Khasab, improving transportation efficiency and strengthening economic and tourism activity across the northern exclave.
Designed to navigate mountainous terrain, the project includes 11 bridges and more than 300 box culverts to ensure structural stability and effective water drainage. The total construction timeline is estimated at 45 months, with service roads now reported to be over 40 percent complete.
Controlled Blasting Operations Begin
To facilitate excavation and slope stabilisation works, contractors have initiated controlled rock blasting along selected sections of the alignment. These operations commenced on August 31, 2025, as part of the project’s safety and engineering requirements.
Blasting and debris removal are being carried out under strict technical supervision to minimise risks associated with loose rock and mountainous construction conditions.
Scheduled Temporary Road Closures for Public Safety
To safeguard motorists during blasting activities, authorities have introduced temporary full road closures from Sunday through Thursday at the following times:
-
Morning: 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM
-
Evening: 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM
Officials have urged residents and visitors to plan their travel schedules carefully and comply with the announced timings. These precautionary measures are aimed at preventing accidents caused by falling rocks and construction debris.
Enhancing Tourism, Trade and Regional Development
Musandam is widely recognised for its dramatic coastal landscapes and growing tourism potential. The Dibba–Lima–Khasab corridor is expected to significantly reduce travel time between key wilayats, facilitate smoother logistics, and improve accessibility for domestic and international visitors.
Upon completion, the road will play a central role in boosting tourism infrastructure, supporting local businesses, and reinforcing Oman’s broader strategy of modernising transport networks in geographically challenging regions.
