Aldar to transform hospitality portfolio with global luxury brands in Abu Dhabi

Aldar Properties has announced a large-scale transformation of its hospitality portfolio with an investment of AED 1.5 billion, aimed at repositioning its assets into high-end resort destinations and introducing globally recognised hotel brands to Abu Dhabi for the first time.

The initiative is designed to capitalise on rising demand for luxury travel experiences while supporting the emirate’s ambition to strengthen its tourism and leisure sector.

Bringing Global Hospitality Brands to Abu Dhabi

As part of the strategy, Aldar has partnered with Hilton to rebrand the Eastern Mangroves property under the Waldorf Astoria brand, marking its debut in Abu Dhabi. The redevelopment will include upgraded rooms and suites, enhanced leisure facilities, and new retail and waterfront experiences.

In addition, Aldar is working with IHG Hotels & Resorts to introduce the Vignette Collection brand across key properties. The Yas Plaza Hotels complex will be transformed into a fully integrated resort destination, set to become the largest Vignette Collection property worldwide.

Repositioning Key Assets Across the UAE

The transformation programme includes multiple flagship developments:

  • Yas Plaza Hotels will be redeveloped into a resort-style destination with private beach access and expanded accommodation options
  • The Al Dhafra desert property will be repositioned as a luxury retreat under the Vignette Collection
  • Nurai Island will undergo refurbishment and expansion, including additional villas and enhanced lifestyle facilities

These upgrades are aimed at delivering immersive, experience-driven stays tailored to the luxury segment.

Enhancing Existing Hospitality Assets

Aldar is also upgrading its properties in Ras Al Khaimah, including Rixos Bab Al Bahr and DoubleTree by Hilton Resort & Spa Marjan Island, with improvements to rooms, public spaces, and dining experiences.

At W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island, new international dining concepts are being introduced to enhance the property’s lifestyle offering.

Supporting Tourism Growth in Abu Dhabi

The transformation aligns with Abu Dhabi’s tourism growth strategy, supported by infrastructure developments such as the expansion of Zayed International Airport and increasing visitor demand across leisure and cultural destinations.

The emirate has seen strong growth in hotel guest numbers, reflecting its rising global appeal as a premium travel destination.

Leadership Perspective

Talal Al Dhiyebi stated that the investment aims to enhance asset value while meeting evolving demand in the luxury hospitality segment. The strategy focuses on delivering world-class experiences and introducing globally recognised brands to the local market.

Future Pipeline and Expansion

Aldar’s hospitality roadmap also includes upcoming developments such as a Nobu-branded hotel on Saadiyat Island, further strengthening its presence in the luxury segment.

Positioning Abu Dhabi as a Luxury Destination

Through this transformation, Aldar is contributing to the evolution of Abu Dhabi’s hospitality landscape by integrating international brands, upgrading infrastructure, and creating destination-led experiences. The initiative reinforces the emirate’s positioning as a leading hub for luxury tourism in the region.
