Qatar Tourism Records Strong Visitor Growth as Major Events Drive Year-End Momentum

International arrivals surpass 3.5 million while Qatar prepares for a busy global events season

Qatar’s tourism sector has maintained steady growth in 2025, with international visitor arrivals exceeding 3.5 million by the end of September, according to performance data released by Qatar Tourism. The figure represents a 2.2 percent increase compared with the same period in 2024, reflecting continued travel demand and the country’s strengthening position as a regional tourism hub.

The positive results come ahead of an extensive calendar of international sporting, cultural, and entertainment events scheduled for the final quarter of the year and the winter tourism season extending into early 2026.

GCC leads visitor arrivals to Qatar

Travellers from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) remained the largest contributor to Qatar’s tourism market, accounting for 36 percent of total international visitors. Visitors from Europe represented 25 percent, while Asia and Oceania accounted for 22 percent of total arrivals.

Qatar also recorded strong growth from emerging markets during the third quarter. Visitor arrivals from China increased by 37 percent, while Australia recorded a 31 percent rise, indicating expanding global interest in Qatar as a travel destination.

Air travel continued to dominate entry routes, with 60 percent of visitors arriving by air, followed by 33 percent by land and 7 percent by sea.

Hotel demand and occupancy continue to rise

The growth in visitor numbers has supported increased demand across Qatar’s hospitality sector. By the end of the third quarter, the country’s hotel and hotel apartment capacity reached 41,733 room keys.

Average occupancy across all accommodation categories stood at 68 percent year-to-date, reflecting an increase of 2.4 percentage points compared to 2024.

Meanwhile, total room nights sold reached 7.7 million, representing an 8 percent year-on-year increase, highlighting rising accommodation demand driven by tourism and business travel.

Qatar prepares for a major events season

As the year enters its final quarter, Visit Qatar is preparing to activate a wide range of international events listed under the Qatar Calendar 2025–2026. The programme includes global sporting tournaments, cultural festivals, and entertainment experiences expected to attract both international visitors and regional travellers.

Among the highlights is the Doha International Military Music Festival, also known as the Doha Tattoo, which will bring together military bands and ceremonial performers from different countries.

The T100 Triathlon World Championship Final will also take place in Lusail City, welcoming elite athletes and spectators from around the world.

Motorsport enthusiasts will be drawn to the Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix, scheduled at the Lusail International Circuit, with extensive visitor services and event logistics coordinated across multiple national entities.

Major football tournaments coming to Qatar

Qatar is also preparing to host several international football competitions in collaboration with the Local Organising Committee for Football Events.

These include the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025™, FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025™, and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2025™.

Matches will be hosted across stadiums in Doha, Lusail, and Al Rayyan, with preparations covering fan services, international media operations, ticketing, accommodation, and transport infrastructure.

Cultural festivals and lifestyle events continue into 2026

Beyond sports events, Qatar’s winter tourism season will feature a series of cultural and lifestyle experiences across the country.

Upcoming highlights include the second editions of Sealine Season in Sealine and Brouq Season in Ras Abrouq, both offering cultural activities, outdoor experiences, and entertainment programmes.

Preparations are also underway for Art Basel Qatar, scheduled to take place at the National Museum of Qatar.

Food and cultural events such as the Qatar International Food Festival and the Throwback Food Festival will further enrich the tourism calendar.

In addition, venues including Katara Cultural Village, Souq Waqif, and Al Bidda Park will continue hosting regular cultural events, heritage activities, and family-friendly programmes throughout the season.

Tourism growth aligned with Qatar’s national strategy

The continued growth in visitor arrivals and hotel demand supports the goals of Qatar’s Third National Development Strategy (2024–2030), which aims to strengthen economic diversification and expand tourism as a key contributor to the national economy.

By combining global sporting events, cultural festivals, and year-round attractions, Qatar continues to position itself as a leading tourism destination in the Middle East.
