Qatar Tourism Outlines Long-Term Expansion with Luxury Hotels, Entertainment and Destination Projects

Doha, Qatar | Tourism Strategy Update

Qatar Tourism has detailed an ambitious expansion roadmap aimed at positioning the country as one of the Middle East’s leading tourism destinations by 2030. The strategy focuses on diversifying visitor experiences through new luxury hotels, large-scale entertainment projects, retail destinations, and cultural attractions, aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030.

The expansion plan gained momentum in the lead-up to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and continues to shape the country’s long-term tourism development agenda.

Luxury Hospitality Pipeline Strengthens Destination Appeal

More than 100 hotels and serviced apartment projects are under development across Qatar, significantly expanding the country’s accommodation inventory. New luxury openings include landmark properties such as the Raffles Hotel and Fairmont Hotel & Resort at Katara Towers, Rosewood Doha, and The St. Regis Marsa Arabia Island.

These additions are designed to attract high-value international travellers while complementing Qatar’s existing portfolio of upscale four- and five-star hotels.

Retail, Leisure and Theme-Led Developments

Beyond hospitality, Qatar is investing heavily in destination-scale attractions. Major projects include Place Vendôme, a mixed-use retail and leisure destination featuring hundreds of international brands, entertainment venues, and luxury hotels.

Other developments include West Bay North Beach, offering public beaches and outdoor leisure experiences, and Qetaifan Island North, a dedicated entertainment island combining resorts, beach clubs, and water-based attractions.

Marketing Push Targets Global Audiences

To support its growth objectives, Qatar Tourism has launched large-scale international marketing initiatives designed to reposition the country as a modern, accessible gateway to the Middle East. Campaigns highlight Qatar’s blend of contemporary urban life, cultural heritage, natural landscapes, and premium hospitality.

Digital platforms, including a multilingual destination website and a personalised travel companion mobile app, have been introduced to enhance trip planning and visitor engagement.

Visitor-Centric Travel Experience

Qatar’s tourism strategy places strong emphasis on service quality and ease of travel. Measures to simplify entry procedures, alongside nationwide cleanliness and safety standards, have been implemented to improve visitor confidence.

Hotels, shopping centres, and leisure facilities operate under nationally coordinated hygiene programmes, reinforcing Qatar’s focus on safe and seamless travel experiences.

Tourism as an Economic Growth Driver

By 2030, Qatar aims to attract more than six million international visitors annually, with tourism contributing a significantly higher share to national GDP. The strategy seeks to stimulate private investment, generate employment, and create a multiplier effect across hospitality, retail, transport, and cultural sectors.
