Marriott International to Launch Autograph Collection Hotel “NUMAJ” in AlUla, Saudi Arabia

Marriott International has partnered with AlUla Development Company (UDC) to introduce an Autograph Collection hotel in the heart of AlUla, Saudi Arabia. Branded under the name “NUMAJ,” the project represents a significant milestone in expanding AlUla’s hospitality offerings while celebrating its unique cultural and natural heritage.

The development aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 strategy to diversify tourism and promote sustainable economic growth.

Prime Location in Downtown AlUla

The upcoming 250-room hotel will be located in central AlUla, near key cultural landmarks including the AlUla Museum and the vibrant Farmers Market. AlUla, situated in northwest Saudi Arabia, is renowned for its dramatic sandstone landscapes, lush oasis valleys, and ancient archaeological sites such as Hegra.

The Autograph Collection brand is known globally for its distinctive, design-led hotels, making AlUla an ideal setting for a property that reflects individuality and a strong sense of place.

NUMAJ: A Celestial-Inspired Design Concept

The hotel’s design concept, NUMAJ, draws inspiration from celestial navigation and AlUla’s historic significance as a guiding point for ancient travellers. The name references a star in the Ursa Major constellation, symbolising exploration and new beginnings.

The project is designed by GioForma, the architects behind the acclaimed Maraya building in AlUla. The architecture incorporates engraved mashrabiya patterns, local stone materials, and handcrafted detailing that reflect traditional Najdi design elements.

An emphasis on light, shadow, and geometric forms creates a seamless indoor-outdoor flow, echoing AlUla’s vernacular architecture and desert environment.

Guest Experience and Facilities

The Autograph Collection hotel will offer 250 rooms and suites, catering to business travellers, leisure guests, and families. Amenities will include five dining venues, a signature restaurant, spa and wellness facilities, a fitness centre, two swimming pools, meeting rooms, a business centre, and curated retail outlets.

The lobby will feature a geological display inspired by AlUla’s rock formations, reinforcing the property’s deep connection to its surroundings.

Sustainability and Environmental Commitment

The project is targeting LEED Gold certification, demonstrating UDC’s commitment to sustainable development. Key initiatives include greywater recycling for irrigation, UV-resistant glazing to reduce heat gain, locally sourced materials, water-efficient landscaping, and lighting systems designed to comply with AlUla’s Dark Sky policy.

These measures aim to reduce environmental impact while preserving the region’s delicate ecosystem.

Supporting Vision 2030 and Community Growth

The Autograph Collection hotel contributes to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 by enhancing AlUla’s tourism infrastructure and supporting long-term economic diversification. The development is expected to create employment opportunities and strengthen the hospitality sector while safeguarding cultural heritage.

Through collaboration between Marriott International and UDC, the project reflects a shared commitment to delivering authentic, sustainable luxury experiences.
